Is Your Enemy (secretly) Hiding in Your Identity?

Identity Theft

God's word gives strength, but if your identify doesn't line up with God's will, you'll stay stagnent and fuitltless. Your identify is important because the bible says in Proverbs 23:7 "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..."

In Judges 6, an angel of the Lord called Gideon a "Mighty man of valour" who has been called by God to deliver the Israelites from the hand of the Midianties. This challenged his existing identity and he ended up rebuking God's calling on his life, (verse 15) "And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house."

Men of God who had False-identities

Ask yourself, who told Gideon he was the least? Identities are taught, it was most likely his family that spoke this false-identify over him. We see further evidence of this when Gideon's father curses him and changes his name to (verse 32) "Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar." (The name Gideon's father gave him in Hebrew, which meant יְרֻבַּעַל , = "let Baal contend/agonize") Gideon ends up using confirmation from the Lord to pacify his struggles with fear because of this false-identity.

Gideon ends his walk falling to idolitry and Israel follows after him... His identity lead him to rebuild the same wickedness God strenghened him to cast down. This is what 2 Peter 2:20 is referring to, "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning."

Power comes with this identity

Your identity carrys authority, and that authoirty enforces power over you, if you submit to it. God's identity for us carrys His authority, as well as the power from the Holy Spirit to mold you into this identifyt, Christ-like. As we saw in Gideon's story, the enemy's identities work in a similar way if you submit to them.

Who else's identity challenged God's calling? The prophet Jeremiah! God called Jeremiah to be (Jeremiah 1:5) "a prophet unto the nations." But Jeremiah's identitiy didn't line up with God's word, so he challanged God's calling and resopnded with, "I cannot speak: for I am a child". So what made Jeremiah different from Gideon? Circumcision of the lips, God touches Jeremiah's lips in verse 9. But why?

When God touched Jeremiah's lips, he circumsied them. That's the change we see in Jeremiah's response to God's word. Jeremiah goes from defending doubt to challenging the rebellious Israelites. Uncircumcised hearts, ears, and lips resist the Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51) through pride, rebellion, and doubt (Exodus 6:12). All these things make up the forskin of false-identities. God's word is the only sword that can remove it (Hebrews 4:12)!

Identifying Satan's Attack of False-Identity

The fallen world and unclean spirits bring misaligned identities that challenge God's will in your life. They cause you to kill your own sucess by convincing you're something you're not. The bring thoughts like "I just can't do it God." or "I'll never change" , these are signs of a false-identity exerting power over you. When the Lord speaks to you according to the identity he's given you, these false-identities cause you to respond with fear and unbelief. They teach you to challenge God's words with "proof" and cast you into the valley of indecision.

When people or thoughts attempt to put you under this false-identity, they leave you feeling hopeless or they try to get you to prove yourself. Encouragement from false-identities lead you into self-destruction. This attack is tricky for many young believers, those weak in the faith and those who are half in with the world. Not knowing what the Word says about you and refusing to submit to that truth is an open door to this attack.

Unclean spirits tempt you with false-identities through visions, words, dreams, and people close to you in hopes you'll come under it through fear or carnal lusts. Their end goal is to have you too busy running in circles after carnal desires, or running on a treadmill from misguided fears.

The POWER of God's Identity!

Inside God's rebuke's is the strength to overcome, 2 Corinthians 7:10 "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."

A life void of change is the result of this false-identity. Becareful what you believe, a common example of this attack is religion. Religous spirits uses the fear of hell and condemnation to tempt Christians to chase after the identity of being a "good-Christian".

God gives the power to change through His Holy Spirit. When you respond to God's word through faith you truley become a new person, and there is true fulfillment in it! The enemy isn't able to give this fulfillment. Satan simply labels people, labels that say things like, you're just gluttonous, you're just like that, you're a perfectionist, you're just prideful, gay, bi, transgener, alchoholic, religous, good person, weak, dumb, abused, ptsd, ADHD, ADD, schizophrenic, dislexic, depressed, poor, broke, black exilence, racist, addicted to pornogrophy, easily addicted, xyz. All of these things challenge God's word, Philipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

The truth is you're a Saint, holy and cleansed of your sin! There is nothing the enemy has broken that God can't fix! You are not who you were and you have access to the Almighty God by the blood of His Only Son to ask for help! NOW IDENTIFY WITH THAT! Renounce those false-identities, rebuke their lysing spirits, and recieve your calling in the Lord, you saint of the Lord, you mighty man of God, you mighty woman of God, you warrior of Jesus Christ, you overcomer!
