Faith needs an example, what example does your faith set?

Updated: Jan 9

Have you stopped to consider the example you're setting? Wether we know it or not, the words we say and things we do set an example. These decisions are constantly working to inspire others to do the same. The scale of this influence is seen in the gosple of Matthew, where one woman's step of faith inspired a whole city to follow after and experience God's healing hand.

In Matthew 9:21, A woman was suffering from "an issue of blood" and in Luke 8:43-48 it says that she spent all she had seeking healing. She was financially depleated, but not in faith. In one last effort she came to Christ and thought, "If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole" and Jesus, in his perfect faithfulness rewarded her faith. She was instantly healed, but something miraculous happened after this healing.

A few chapters later in Matthew 14:36, Jesus arrives in Gennesaret and the whole country came out to meet him with their sick. It says they "besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole." They did the same thing the woman with the issue of blood did, her waves of faith drew a whole country to follow her as she followed Christ!

When the woman with the issue of blood was healed, a whole crowd was watching and it's interesting to consider how her healing testimony spread. Did she testify afterwards, did the whole crowd go off an tell everyone they knew about it? I don't see why the answer can't be both, but if she never took that step of faith, who knows how many sick would have passed on their enounter with Christ.

I don't believe this woman knew what her action of faith would lead to, but she was only concerend with seeking Christ. Some people need an example to follow after, and others are pioneers of the faith. So lets step like Christ stepped, knowing his example is sufficient. Why should we reserve our steps of faith if no one "around us" hasn't done it? Lets be the trail blazers of our generation, boldly trusting in Christ as he leads us to do what He's done.

What if the waves from these steps spark a nation wide revival? What if you're a pioneer to this generation and the only example you'll ever see is Christ? What if God wants to do something new in this generation? Truth is, many of us live in comfort and familiarity. It's a path we know, we have a whole network of "others" that have followed that same path, but where is God in that path? The fear to following Jesus' foot steps is what it might cost us. We think, what if it costs us our future plans, our jobs, our friends, our hobbies, or hearts desires? The path Jesus walked costed him everything, and he's asking us to be just as willing to do the same.

So lets step, lets be the example others can follow after as we follow Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:1 "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ."
